what is cupping therapy?

When you participate in a cupping session, your acupuncturist will strategically place round jars (either glass, plastic or bamboo) on numerous trigger points on your body for suction release. Cupping can also help to disperse or break up stagnation and congestion by drawing the congested blood to the surface.*

By utilizing a suction therapeutic action, we are able to help penetrate deep into the muscle, helping to release harmful toxins and trigger the lymphatic system. The different types of marks left behind by cupping will help your practitioner determine what is blocking your energy or causing inflammation.

TYPES OF CUPPING WE OFFER

Cupping Therapy in our Smithtown office are offered in two ways; dry cupping and wet cupping.

Dry Cupping: This type of cupping involves one of our practitioners simply placing suction cups on the skin.

Wet Cupping: A small puncture will be made to the skin with a lancet to apply the suction cup over, therefore drawing out a small amount of blood.

CUSTOM WELLNESS PLANS

Your wellness plan will be custom-made for you and the results of your cupping therapy will also be unique. Redness on the skin will usually mean heat, indicating acute or chronic infection. While black represents a strong blood stagnation, and purple means modern blood stagnation. Patients that experience blisters on the skin may have numerous toxins in the skin, and if there is no color change at all, you may suffer from energy (qi) stagnation.*
